Electric-Assist Xtracycle: Four Month Update

The electric-assist Xtracycle is working great. After four months, the kinks have been worked out, and the bike is now a very practical method of transportation. Modification from the original include: a rear fender (to keep the bottom of the snap deck clean, the top part of a hurdle zip-tied to the freeradical (to keep the battery from bouncing and the fender eyelets from putting holes in the battery),

a tray-rack (to carry a second bicycle), handlebars made from a short stem w/ shims attached to the seatpost (for passengers who need extra security), and a speaker with a small amp that connects to an iPod.

The LiFePO4 (i.e., Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery has held up - holding a charge for about a 25 mile trip with significant electric assist. I can cruise along the highway at about 23 mph when I pedal. I currently have the bike setup as a 7-speed (the Crystalyte motor limits you to a freewheel) and the number of teeth on the chainring upfront was increased to 44, allowing me to pedal comfortably at top speed. I charge the battery as soon as possible, and with this procedure, there has been no noticeable decline in the four months I have had it.

Future modifications may include: a front fork with fender mounts, a larger audio amplifier, a sign and/or advertisements. As always, I'm open to ideas.
